Even when the number of services where news are broken increase by the hour, remaining informed is getting easier and easier. A case in point: the NewsWhip website. This Irish startup can take care of monitoring the most important publications of the day, and then by looking at which news people have been sharing more recurrently on Twitter and Facebook produce a ranking with these stories that have been on everybody’s lips.

Of course, even on a slow news day that’s a lot of information to go through. So, users of NewsWhip can have everything arranged by country, and grouped by category. “Culture”, “Tech”, “Business”, “Sports”, “Gossip”… these are just a handful of the many, many which are available for you to choose.

If comparisons were to be made, NewsWhip lies somewhere in between Flipboard and TweetMeme, what with its visual approach to showing you what’s been trending the most on social services as of late.

Something that certainly wouldn’t go amiss is notifying people when stories that fall within their areas of interest are featured. That, and a crisper user interface and overall layout. There’s just too many aggregators of news currently out there, you need to get people’s attention from the very beginning.
