Sony Looks to Health Equipment Market
Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation, Sony Corp announced that they are now moving into the health equipments sector to restrain the rising rates of cancer, obesity and heart disease.
Sony, which is famous for its TVs, cameras and video game consoles now speed up a move into health equipment by using the edge its new image- sensors have over rivals.
The company’s new Chief Executive Officer, Kazuo Hirai said that the health sector has the potential to be one of the main sources of profit, even as they cut targets on their game consoles PlayStation 3 units, Blu-ray disc players and their Sony Vaio computers.
Talking in an interview, the incoming Sony’s CEO, Hirai said that they can leverage their technology base in image-capturing sensors, lenses, 3-D technology, image processing, to bring up just a few different areas and those are the areas where they already have in-house technologies that really allow Sony to differentiate themselves.
The tech media reported that Japanese company won a boost after its smaller but more efficient CMOS chips were used in one of the most popular smartphone iPhone 4S, and now they are targeting endoscopes used to look inside body cavities and different other applications.
Sony is now looking and moving towards the new areas that can support their strengths in making high-end quality products and the medical sector is the area where people are prepared to pay for quality.
According to media the longer, more inactive lives and richer diets are driving an increase in severe diseases such as heart disease, cancers and diabetes, spurring demand for faster and more portable equipment to treat them.
A Texas based marketing research firm MarketsandMarkets in its report said that sales in the world’s 10 biggest markets for medical devices are estimated to raise 6.8% a year between 2010 and 2015 to reach $228 billion.
